An ode to small business

PHEW - WHAT A YEAR!

And so just like that we find ourselves at the end of 2020. We would like to pause and take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone in Melbourne who put their hearts and minds to the task of achieving the remarkable outcome of eliminating covid-19 from our community. We also look forward to an amazing holiday season now that the restrictions have eased.
On the whole we consider ourselves the luckiest of the lucky as we were able to remain open throughout the various stages of restrictions and our trade remained steady. Other local businesses were not so lucky and it is them who we would like to turn your attention to below.

LOCAL PRODUCERS

One of our main goals as we move through this tricky re-entry time is to encourage and support other local small businesses as they have carried a heavy burden this year. There are many ways we can all support them on the road to recovery including ensuring that our seasonal gift-giving includes locally produced gifts and culinary delights. We've done a quick round up of some of our favourite items that we feature in-store.
Channel some love and tick off as many of the suggestions on this list as you can. It is also worth looking around when you come in for your weekly shop as we stock many other great local brands.

OUR NEIGHBOURS

There are so many wonderful traders at the Preston market and many were forced to close at various times throughout the year due to restrictions. We are very keen to support them as they get back on their feet. Read on below as we feature a couple of our favourites from Pam Lane and be sure to pop your head in and say hello to them when you are next doing your shopping with us.

What is your business? Tell us 3 things that are unique about it?
We are the only wax esthetician and barber at Preston market. We are not just about the business but are helping many people with charity events and fundraising. We are a small business that was established by our hardwork and dedication.

How long have you been at Preston Market and what do you love about being a trader here?
We have been here for the past 4 years and everyday we come doing what we love and love the variety of people we have met working here. Some who have grown to be good friends.

What have been the biggest challenges about this year, how did you overcome them and what are your plans going into 2021?
The biggest challenge we had to deal with this year would have been the pandemic which we are still trying to overcome but with all the resources and guidance that has been provided to fight this virus I'm sure we will see a better future in 2021.

What is your business? Tell us 3 things that are unique about it?
We sell products that come from Tasmania, they are high quality, organic and environmentally friendly. We have a large range from lavender to cheese and everything in between.

How long have you been at Preston Market and what do you love about being a trader here? What have been the biggest challenges about this year, how did you overcome them and what are your plans going into 2021?
We started our little venture in the weeks between stage 3 & 4. What made it worth it to myself & Elaine (my wife) was the support from everyone around Pam Lane.
Going in to 2021 we plan to expand to sell Tasmanian wine and other alcohol & chocolate to Melbourne.
